Time to try different soil ammendments with my Bougainvilleas!
Bougainvillea 1 →
I've pruned this Bougainvillea as a "standard" in July 2022.

I added approximately 1 cup of coffee grounds to the soil.
Bougainvillea 1 - Oct 02, 2022
This Bougainvillea didn't grow much since experimenting in August with coffee grounds. I didn't add any more coffee grounds, but I fertilized with 3-4-5 fertilizer.
Bougainvillea 1 - Nov 08, 2022
Here they come, bracts are coming in! This month I bought a new fertilizer, so I fertilized with 4-4-4 fertilizer.
This was a short experiment with coffee grounds. However, I’ve experimented with adding coffee grounds to Bougainvilleas in the past. I've tried it often, I just never really saw any real noticeable results with coffee grounds on their own. I realize now that I had high expectations when adding coffee grounds to Bougainvilleas. I imagined my Bougainvilleas would burst into bright pink blooms, but that has never happened for me.
So are coffee grounds good for Bougainvilleas?
I've read on a variety of gardening websites that coffee grounds can provide nutrients and also acidify the soil. For me, I would just rather add the coffee grounds to my compost and focus on fertilizing bougainvilleas for more blooms.
Do Bougainvilleas like coffee grounds?
The Bougainvilleas have never seemed to have an issue when I have added coffee grounds. However, the main issue I have with adding coffee grounds is that I'm just not sure how much to add and how often to add the coffee grounds.
I suppose that what've I learned from this short experiment is that coffee grounds don't harm the Bougainvilleas, but I didn’t see a burst of blooms or anything spectacular.
Since my main goal is to get an explosive blooming Bougainvillea, I think I'll focus more on experimenting with fertilizers and I'll add my coffee grounds to my compost pile.
However, I encourage people to do their own experiment with coffee grounds. I haven't tested every scenario with coffee grounds but if you feel inclined to try coffee grounds in your Bougainvilleas please do so.
