With some effort, gardening provides an opportunity to create beauty all around you.

This month I worked on getting the greenhouse ready for the Bougainvilleas. The structure was pretty much in tact but it just needed some fresh plastic covering. It's not the warmest greenhouse but it protects them from the harsh cold wind. Primarily it serves as a place to hold in some heat on freeze days. On the days that are going to be in the low 30's I incorporate a small pet heater for the evenings. The good thing is that I only need to use it a few days in the winter. This small heater has really helped the bougainvilleas get through the freezes in South Texas. In the past without this small heater I've lost quite a few plants to a freeze.
One day I'll have the perfect greenhouse for these plants, until then this is how I'll help them make it through the winter.
